Your First Surah: Al-Fatiha

Al-Fatiha, which means The Opening, is the first chapter of the Quran and the most recited passage in all of Islam. It is spoken in every single unit of every daily prayer, which means a practising Muslim recites it many times a day. Learning it by heart is the perfect first step into the Quran.

Though it is only seven short verses, Al-Fatiha holds an entire conversation with God. It opens with praise of the Most Merciful, then moves into a heartfelt plea: guide us to the straight path.
