Belief in the Messengers

Muslims believe that God chose certain people throughout history to deliver His guidance to humanity. These prophets and messengers were human beings of the highest character, honest, kind, and devoted to God. They came to teach people to worship the one Creator and to live with justice, mercy, and truth.

The chain of prophets is long and stretches across the whole human story. It begins with Adam, the first human, and includes Noah, who built the ark; Abraham, the friend of God; Moses, who led his people to freedom; and Jesus, born miraculously of the Virgin Mary, peace be upon them all. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final one in this line.

Muslims love and respect all of these prophets equally and never insult or rank them against one another. They were brothers in one mission. Believing in Prophet Muhammad ﷺ does not mean dismissing those who came before, but recognising that he completed and sealed the message they had each carried in their own time.

This belief draws Islam close to Christianity and Judaism, which honour many of the same figures. When you embrace Islam, you do not abandon the prophets you may already revere. Instead, you join them all in the single message they shared: there is one God, and He calls every generation home to Him with mercy.
